New cultists for Warfactory range

I’ve just had eight new models cast up for the Warfactory range – 3 techno-apes and 5 cultists. They will be going on sale at Lancer next week. These three cultists are variants of the existing models, packing some heavier firepower than their colleagues.

An exciting parcel

What could be more exciting than a big box of metal arriving? A box of castings of your own sculpts – that’s what. Kieven at Lancer has done a cracking job of casting up my second batch of sculpts for the Warfactory miniatures range. Not all of them would fit in the first mould, so […]

Unreleased Citadel wizard / cleric

At BOYL as a reward for putting on a game, I was lucky enough to get a pick from a box of unreleased Citadel wizards (thank you Bryan). I have been gradually putting together a witch-hunter warband for Mordheim and this cleric seemed perfect to lead them. Here he is on the Collecting Citadel wiki […]

Techno Ape Sculpts completed

My next batch of sculpts are now ready for casting and are already in the post to Lancer miniatures. Here’s a quick preview of some of them – they should be appearing in their shop shortly. More previews coming soon.

These are three “techno-apes” – experts in miniaturised technology, they mainly wear tiny devices although […]

Sculpting tip #1 – wet foam to lubricate your tool

Here’s a tip I picked up from watching Kevin Adams sculpting at BOYL. He was using a blister pack just like the one below, soaked in water. Pretty much every time he lifted the sculpting tool off the green, he dabbed it on the foam, moistening it so that it didn’t stick to the putty. […]

15mm Biblical Command Vignettes and sea peoples

Still going on the city, but need a bit of inspiration for the final few buildings. As a distraction, I’ve been finishing off some units and making some command vignettes to make the generals more distinctive.

Inspired by the inscriptions showing the Egyptian battle against the invading Sea Peoples, showing the fighting around the ox-wagons, […]

Voltsvagn paddle steamer WIP

As a late entry for Oldhammer Ahoy, we have started work on the Voltsvagn from the WFB 2nd Edition Magnificent Sven scenario. Helpfully the template is printed in the scenario. I scaled it up slightly to the largest that would fit on a piece of A4 – there’s not a great deal of room in […]

Hammering spear points

Makeshift anvil

When I started collecting DBA armies in 1:72 plastic, the moulding quality was generally very good, except for one thing – the spears. In soft plastic, very thin straight rods just don’t work very well, so I started replacing them with my own, made from wire.

Hammering the points into spear tips […]

Home casting a white metal demon

Mutant /. demon green putty sculpt

I’ve been getting steadily more successful at home casting some of my sculpts, so I thought I would share my methods. Note that the models for sale in my shop via Lancer are not produced in this way – they are spin cast in a commercial set up.

Cultists

The whole merry throng

This collection of cultists/Redemptionists really got going last summer. At BOYL they were selling a variety of odds and sods at £1 each. I snapped up everything with a robe on and went home with 9 miscellaneous ‘jolly’ monks and priests. I also had a solitary GW Redemptionist from some […]
