These hedges are made from synthetic wire wool from a DIY store. It is quite expensive (in the £4 - £5 mark)., but you can make a load of hedges from the stuff. It comes in squares, of 4" by 2" wide and about 1" deep. If cut them in half lengthways so that they can make 2" high hedges, then I trim them to bevel the top of the hedge slightly using my wife's best kitchen scissors of course.
