Hueys
UH-1B Huey Gunship
Manufacturer Italeri
Scale 1:72 / 20mm
Cost £3.00
Colour Schemes
US Army, Vo Dat 1965
Royal Australian AF, 1961
Japanese Army, 1982
Armament
This Huey is equipped with twin 25 rocket pods and a chin mounted 40mm grenade launcher. It would also have carried M60 door gunners
The configuration is known as Aerial Rocket Artillery (ARA). Rather than using them in a conventional gunship role, they were called in as a group to carry out area fires similar to those of conventional artillery. They would usually have operated at battalion support level

UH-1F Huey Slick
Manufacturer Italeri
Scale 1:72 / 20mm
Cost £3.00
Colour Schemes
20th SOS, 1966
37th ARRS, 1979
58th OMS, 1979
Armament
As a transport, it would have had M60 door gunners
The UH-1F was built for the American Air Force, and was used in Vietnam solely to support Special Forces operations. It is easily recognisable because the exhaust of its powerful engine points sideways, and it also has a longer tail boom than the other short bodied Hueys.

UH-1H Huey Slick
Manufacturer Hasegawa
Scale 1:72 / 20mm
Cost £7.50
Colour Schemes
This kit doesn't have any Vietnam era colour schemes, but can easily be painted as such. The only thing that is impractical to paint on is the 'United States Army' on the tail.
Armament
As a transport, it would have had M60 door gunners
The UH-1H has a longer cabin, and a more powerful engine than the 1B & 1C, so was generally used for troop transportation, and could carry up to 14. There were also a few gunship configurations later in the war.

The sculpting of the Hasegawa kit is a bit clumsier than that of the Italeri.
